Left Over Light

... evening sun gathers in the trees

... fills in the rough edged bark with leftover light

Painting: Vincent van Gogh, " Sunset on Poplars," 1884

  1. A beautiful poem Teresa. No wonder Van Gogh was one of the great masters of all time. That is a beautiful painting. I love it. It was painted the same year of my grandfather's birth.

    1. Hi Steven, I found a few van Gogh's yesterday I had never seen before and was astonished again at the beauty of his paintings. Every little dash of color enthralls me! And painted the same year as your grandfather's birth ... what am absolutely lovely bit of dovetailing...

  2. your poems are lovely Teresa. I intended to ask whether the words or the images came to you first, but I see you've answered that already. You have a gift.

I love poplars. I love their majesty and their tulip-like blooms. They're the first trees here whose leaves begin to change and they start changing long before the rest of the trees. They remind us that Fall is coming.

    1. Thank you, Bill. I still love your impromptu haiku about picking garlic... really. I just love this van Gogh, the mood it evokes really speaks to me.
