  1. Poignant. Time still conducts its tremendous operations over something that has escaped it.

  3. A place to pause and pay your respects. This reminded me of a grave I visit every summer in a very remote part of the back country. It is just 50 feet off a forest road and is the resting place of a man named John Palmer who died in 1908. The marker says that he was a good man.

    1. There is an abandoned homestead a few miles from here, and several years ago a friend and I went to explore it with our cameras ... found a gravestone in the woods. It seems it was the young daughter of the houses onetime occupants. Life, from a human standpoint, can seem awfully short ... I'm reminded of a line by Gus, in McMurtry's, Lonesome Dove, "Life's short. Shorter for some than for others."

  4. Such a vast and open area for someone remains to be put to rest. Perhaps very fitting, especially if that person loved the wide open space.

    1. I was thinking about the human concept of time and how terribly short it seems ... I do love those wide open spaces ...
