it wasn't vietnam that got you

                                                   but your motorcycle

and the streets of san diego

                                                   damn it randy

I had to debate the value of unions

                                                   without you

  2. 1920s Harley or near-misses when a Honda 360 was our 2nd car in the '70s, I empathize. My condolences.

  3. "I had to debate the value of unions without you" is perhaps one of the most time relevant phrases I've heard in a long, long time. Without knowing the exact circumstances I'm guessing who ever it was would have liked to have been with you to share that experience.

    1. It's still hard to believe after all these years ... how can this be? Someone so in love with life? A good soul ...

  4. Dear Teresa, I wish you peace and good memories when you think of Randy. And I thank you for this poem. It's timely with the decision about teachers' tenure out in California. I'm from a union family--my dad was a member of the steamfitter's union. And my brother was a member of the teamsters. And I, too, have discuss--and argued about--unions with many friends. Fortunately, we respected one another's opinions. Peace.

    1. Nothing but very fine memories, Dee. thank you so much. People forget how unions changed lives very much for the better ... lives were even lost in order to pave the way ... we should not let them go without a fight ..we are letting too much go without a fight ...
