August Nineteen Sixty Eight

... august nineteen sixty eight / in the back of a pickup

... three boys singing dreams of the everyday housewife

                                    ... they knew every word

    1. This poem came from a comment left by a reader who goes by "Steven." He told me about his it in a comment left on my Glen Campbell tribute post and I've never forgotten it.

  2. The swinging sixties. People always tell me that it was a time of fun, rebellion, changes, music, freedom and much more. I wonder. Love the photo you used.

    1. I think it was a time of change and all the things you mentioned. I'm sorry the changes didn't create greater change ...we seem to be going retrograde ...

  3. OMG. I knew this sounded familiar. What a nice compliment that my comment still lives within you. I am flattered beyond words. For some reason, and I don't know WHY that completely unrehearsed "break out in song" event happened? It was pure spontaneous fun. I know I will never forget it. I think we all need more "pure spontaneous fun." Such a timely post as it occurred at just about this time of the Summer of 1968.

    1. Oh, sweet man, so happy you found this. I will never forget your sharing that moment of "pure spontaneous fun." Those are the best memories, aren't they? And yes, we need more of them ... Thank you for providing me with the material for one of my favorite poems among those I've written. Hope all is well in your neck of the woods... :)
