... walking on the bones of the anasazi / listening for stories

... morning on Tsankawi
Lovely. I stayed at La Fonda for a few days, probably 20-some years ago. Just read about Tsankawi. Wish I had known about it back then. I was taking a class in Native American literature and spent some time focused on the Anasazi. (It's when I realized that Mother Nature is not always a bountiful and generous figure.) Still love pottery from places like.Santa Clara, San Ildefonso, etc.
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful old hotel. My first job in SF was at the Indian Shop there. I walked on those streets so many times ... good memories...
DeleteI love the history ... and both of those pueblos do have some great artists. Love that black pottery from Santa Clara especially.
I regret that when I lives in the southwest I didn't spend more time in New Mexico. I do have some shards of Anasazi pottery from north central Arizona.
ReplyDeleteThere is some great hiking there, but nothing tops Utah in my book.
DeleteDo I hear some fabulous memories here?
ReplyDeleteOh, yes. I lived a little north of Santa Fe for about a year and a half when I first arrived and this was a regular part of my life for a while. Beautiful walk and habitation site at the top.
DeleteSuch a tranquil setting. A very nice poem too.
ReplyDeleteIt was one of my regular places to hike to when I lived close by ... Very beautiful and the energy outstanding ... a peaceful place.
