The Lion's Mouth

... don't be afraid he said

... as he placed her head in the lion's mouth

... everything will be all right he said

    1. Yes, this is all about trust, and as I get older and, hopefully, wiser, trust is an even greater issue, discernment essential... Thank you for those wise words... :)

FWIW: I first wrote these lines as part of a larger poem many many years ago when my then boyfriend was a Leo... :)

  2. Dear Teresa, I have a friend who, with her four children, is in a shelter right now. The lion's mouth proved tragic. Peace.

    1. I have never been in a physically abusive relationship, but I did work for a while at a shelter and it was a difficult experience. I could only do that for about a year, as I watched every woman that came through return to her abuser and sometimes with tragic results. Some women can also be very abusive, and we mustn't forget that...

  3. Powerful words indeed. Even though I grew up rural, safe world, there was strife and abuse in too many homes. Everyone knew who the abusers were. And yes one of the worst abusers was a woman. Sadly, one abuser is one too many. Trust must be earned. Intuition is essential. A friend of a friend was in an abusive relationship. My friend begged her to leave. She refused. Her logic was "when he beats me up he is paying attention to me." Perhaps the saddest statement I have ever heard.

    1. Hi Steven, The inner rage that erupts into abuse continues to plague people from all walks of life. I sure wish we could get to the roots of these problems and help people dig them out.

Yes, trust must be earned. And we always Know, if we are willing to listen...

That is, indeed, one very sad statement. Self-esteem is often at the root of the victims inability to leave...
