On a Path Above the Lake

on a path above the lake
                                                I watched your naked body
                                                your outstretched arms

                                                you were praying
to the water, the trees, the sky
                                                the early summer sun

                                                decades later I think of
                                                you and wonder

                                                was I you watching
                                                from a distance

  1. Deep in the past century, one of the best and wisest men I've ever known defined the etymology of the word "ecstacy" as a Middle English adaptation of the Latin term, "ekstasis" --being both inside and outside of oneself. Your lovely and succinct poem has clarified that definition for me. Thank you, Teresa.

    1. Thank You, Geo. It's a poem decades in the making ... a hard one to nail down. So glad you read and responded.
