My Island

... at the far end of my mother's clothesline / over a field of ocean grass

... my island of the blue dolphins

... I lie down in warm sun / disappear

  1. Reminds me of being a kid in Minnesota--lying down in the tall prairie grass to peek up into blue sky and watch the dragonflies land on the waving tips heavy with seed. Loved this. :)

    1. Exactly :)

Did you read, Island of the Blue Dolphins, when you were young, or see the movie? I was smitten by the story, based on a real person's life. I spent a lot of time then on my own island. :)

  2. Beautiful. The sea follows us in our saline bloodstreams --same salt concentration-- and into our memories. I can hear it in the wind.

    1. Your thoughtful response feels like an additional part of the poem, a beautiful call and response ... thank you so much, Geo.
