Driving Through Northern New Mexico

... driving through northern new mexico

... shiprock forever in the distance

... my heart's been in my throat for a very long time

... another hour and I'll head north

... camp along the san juan river / fall asleep at dusk

... pretend I'm not one of the lonely ones

  1. Sometimes I make that trip again myself, in my mind. I know a lot about the lonely ones.

  2. The entire feeling in this seems to be one of isolation. Made me wonder if you were traveling away from something or toward something?

    1. I'm not sure but I know I was trying to make my life feel complete without my usual companionship. I wanted to prove I could do these things by myself, but it felt like a forced march ... I'm also glad I tried.

  4. Don't be lonely, Teresa. I'm in the back seat, staring at the sky --or maybe part of it. Beautiful poem.

I only today found the comments people had left. Blogger has changed its routine of leaving emails for moderating comments. I apologize for the delayed response.

  5. Been through there, ended up in Denver. One of the lonely ones.
