The Unknown

... from my small window I watch ... mother and dad arguing in the headlights

... every breath ... a rise and fall into the unknown

  1. I think, to a young child, an argument creates a whole lot of unknowns.

  2. It always was so -- nerve-wracking -- to hear my parents fight. They rarely did, and in many households it wouldn't even have qualified as a fight. But for just a moment, there would be a bit of light between them, and I realized they were two people.

    1. I only recall two fights between my parents. This one, being the first and out of hearing range, really created some unsettled feelings. Funny, the things we recall.

  3. Another compelling combination of an image with a poem. Very powerful.

  4. The image made by your parents arguing in headlights like a spot light on a stage during a performance was stunning. Brought the real feeling of the event right to the front. One of your best for conveying real emotions Teresa.
