It was heartbreaking ... I felt loss for myself and the mother wren who made it her summer home. I replaced it with an old coffee can but, so far, she has sought shelter elsewhere. Maybe this year ...
I'm thinking now of Chinua Achebe's novel, "Things Fall Apart." Indeed they do, from the most concrete to the least.
