We Had the Weekends

... we had the weekends ... pinochle and pot 'til four in the morning

... plates piled high with deep fried smelt from lake superior
... your easy laugh

       ... now you're gone ... and I can't lean across the table

... kiss your sweet chocolate mouth / tell you that I love you

  2. Interesting poem. Sounds like good times. Good times and maybe some bad times. But if it includes pinochle and deep fried smelt all can't be bad.

    1. Some good and some very bad ... college years in Bemidji ... Stan long gone from this world ... but so many fine memories ... the smelt doesn't run in large numbers as it did then from what I understand ...

  3. Poignant, soft, gentle, simply lovely. I'm saying this is my favorite so far. Still wondering what chocolate/smelt breath must smell like.
