Washtub Summers

... filled with water from the well metal washtubs on green grass

... we screamed because we could

... hand me down bathing suits billowing with summer

  2. Washtubs were very much a part of my childhood. This new world is amazing but they do miss a lot.

    1. They were essential in so many ways. I have two now that came with this place I bought, though slightly more rounded in shape. I love having them in my life and have used them to cart a few things around, mostly apples.

  3. This brings back memories from my childhood. We used to bath our dogs in large round metal tubs where I would frequently jump in with them to enjoy the fun.

    1. We were an uncivilized lot. I don't recall ever bathing our black lab, Rex. Our own baths were probably not as frequent as they should have been ... no running water til I was ten. I do recall one day being in one of those metal tubs in the middle of the kitchen floor when my older cousin, Micky, came in the house. It was the first time I recall feeling embarrassed by my nakedness. Ah, the fall from Eden ... :)

  4. Those bring back memories from the 40's when the tubs were filled by buckets pumped from the well out back of my grandparents' ranch house.

    1. They played a big role in our lives for many years ... as did the pump ...

  5. I remember bathing in these. I can still smell the fresh-clean soap my mother used.
